Condemnation of the Racist Violence Against Morrocan Immigrants in El Ejido (Spain)

Madrid, Spain, 25-26 February 2000

Declaration

Following the incidents of racist violence towards Moroccan immigrants which took place in El Ejido in February, the Executive Committee of Socialist International Women, meeting in Madrid on 25-26 February,

  • condemns these acts of racism;
  • expresses its support for the movements in civil society which have mobilised to defend the values of tolerance and human rights;
  • supports in particular the action of women, who work continually for peace and fraternity;
  • calls on the Spanish people to safeguard the spirit of democracy, in respecting and recognising diversity.
